SC quashes Culpable Homicide charges against doctor for phone prescription

The Supreme Court has quashed culpable homicide charges against a doctor who prescribed injections to a patient over the telephone. When the duty nurse administered the prescribed injections to the patient, her condition allegedly deteriorated, leading to her death.

After being booked under Section 304 Part I of the Indian Penal Code (culpable homicide not amounting to murder), the doctor challenged the same before the Madras High Court and later the Supreme Court.

From Dentistry to Politics Pankaj Singh Takes Charge as Delhi Health Minister

Pankaj Kumar Singh, a dental surgeon-turned-politician, took oath as a minister of the BJP government led by Rekha Gupta and has now been appointed the Minister of Health and Family Welfare along with Transport, and Information Technology.

The ceremony, held at Ramlila Ground, was attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other dignitaries.

Kerala HC Directs Doctors to Preserve Foetus in MTP Cases Involving Minor Victims

The Kerala High Court has directed the state Health Department to issue a circular to all doctors in the state, mandating the preservation of foetus in Medical Termination of Pregnancy (MTP) cases involving minor victims. The court also directed that the written permission from the investigating Officer or from the District Police Superintendent must be obtained to destroy it.

Justice A. Badharudeen observed that this was required to protect the interest of the minor victims and to ensure that the accused does not flee trial for want of vital piece of evidence.
